The Freedonia Group says **demand for recovered resin** by plastic pipe producers **is likely to rise due to enhanced investment** in public infrastructure projects. A new study from the consultancy estimates that the demand for large-diameter pipe used in wastewater projects will increase 6.2 percent annually through 2016. THG analysts say that HDPE pipe will capture market share from steel and concrete during this period (plastics holds about one-third of the market today).
**Single-serve plastic water bottles are now banned in Concord, Massachusetts** as of Jan. 2, 2013, reports [_The Associated Press_](http://www.boston.com/news/local/massachusetts/2013/01/01/mass-town-plastic-bottle-ban-effect/0pF9lZwXphfZaMAkyqKU1K/story.html). The law was adopted after activists waged a three-year long campaign against the containers and stores that flaunt the new law could face a $50 fine after the third offense.
During the 60 seconds it took for the **Times Square Ball** to drop on New Year's Eve, **Americans wasted 300,000 beverage containers** that collectively weigh more than three Times Square Balls put together, according to figures from the **Container Recycling Institute**.
