The **City of Placentia, California** is the latest local government to become an **e-Stewards Enterprise** member. The cities of San Francisco and San Jose, California, as well as King County, Washington, have also implemented policies to use only e-Stewards-certified electronics processors to handle their collected e-scrap.

Toxco, Inc. has received Patent Nos. 8,246,717 and 8,252,085, which describe a **method of recovering metals from used nickel/metal hydride batteries**. The technology uses a system of magnetic filters and flotation tanks to separate metals.

Microsoft Registered Refurbishers have been invited to submit short, 3-minute videos showcasing **refubishment's positive impact on employees and end-users**. Submissions are due by October 15, with prizes available for the top 10 videos. AT&T has [introduced](http://www.att.com/gen/press-room?pid=23249&cdvn=news&newsarticleid=35275) a line of **USB charging units and cables with housings made from 30 percent recycled post-consumer plastic**. The devices are Energy Star 5 rated and draw minimal power when not in use.

**Verizon Wireless' in-store trade-in program collected its one millionth device** this month, diverting an estimated 140 tons of e-waste from landfills.
