Plastics Recycling Update Magazine: PetroChem Wire: Higher bale prices support recycled PE

## _PetroChem Wire_: Higher bale prices support recycled PE

_By Editorial Staff, Resource Recycling_

Recycled PE prices were mixed in August, with some grades declining slightly, but several grades of fractional melt material rising.

Heavy flooding in Mississippi and Louisiana caused by Hurricane Isaac in late August tightened some spot secondary HDPE supply. HDPE frac melt dairy pellets rose a couple of cents to 58-64 cents per pound. Some quotes for HDPE copolymer mixed color were up 1-1.5 cents per pound from July. Higher bale prices contributed to the upward price movement. Most of the month of August, though, saw weaker demand from PE regrind buyers exporting to Asia. HDPE HMW regrind sold mostly in a range of 42-47 cents per pound in August, depending on color, down from a range closer to 47-51 cents per pound in July. Generic prime spot domestic PE prices rose 3-5 cpp in August.
