E-Scrap News Magazine: Glass from LCDs can be recycled

## Glass from LCDs can be recycled

_By Editorial Staff, Resource Recycling_

A major producer of LCD TVs has developed a new way to recycle the glass from obsolete units.

LCD panel glass is difficult to process, due mainly to attached film and other materials. However, Sharp Corp. researchers, in conjunction with scientists from Osaka Prefecture University, discovered they can produce zeolite from crushed panel glass by using an alkaline solution. Zeolite is an industrial commodity used to treat soil and to purify water. Recycling a 40-inch panel yields approximately $2.30 worth of zeolite.
