E-Scrap News Magazine: Chips and bytes move to data centers

## Chips and bytes move to data centers

_By Editorial Staff, Resource Recycling_

E-scrap firms serving corporate and institutional accounts will see less equipment directly available for processing from some of their clients in the coming years as a result of a growing move to data-center outsourcing.

A [recent study](https://451research.com/report-long?icid=2321) by 451 Research indicates there is 22.1 million square feet of data center operational space in America's top 20 markets. Data center use is growing by nine percent annually due to "an unstoppable move" to the cloud, says the report. One key factor in the trend toward data-center outsourcing is the desire of firms and institutions to convert current internal data centers into revenue-producing space.
