In **Nigeria, officials have fined e-waste importers $1 million**. Earlier this month, officials intercepted a vessel just outside of Lagos that was carrying the banned material, reports [_AllAfrica_](http://allafrica.com/stories/201301140302.html). Nigerian law prohibits the carrying, depositing and dumping of harmful waste on any land or territorial waters in the country.

MBA Polymers has filed Patent Application 20130008831, which describes methods and devices for **separating plastic materials from shredded electronics**.

Electronics giant **Samsung has introduced a line of upgradable TVs**. Once it becomes commercially available in March, the company's "[Evolution Kit](http://samsungevolutionkit.com/)" will plug into select Samsung TVs to upgrade them with voice controls, faster processors, and internet-enabled apps, obviating the need for consumers to discard their recent Samsung TV purchases in favor of newer models.
