## Export watch

The volume of plastic scrap exported in June, at 314.94 million pounds, fell steeply by 14.7 percent from its May figure. When matched against its June 2011 position, the volume of exports was down by a sharp 19.5 percent.

The weighted price of recovered plastic exports in June, at 20.15 cents per pound, was down 6.2 percent from its May standing. Too, when compared to its year-over-year (YOY) level the price was down by 23.9 percent.

For the first half of 2012, at 2.18 billion pounds, the volume of recovered plastics exported was down 3.2 percent from the first half of 2011 year-to-date (YTD) figure. At 21.42 cents per pound, the average price for the first half was down, as well, by 4.0 percent from its 2011 YTD standing.

As for other exported materials, recovered paper exports, through the first half of 2012, experienced a 5.5 percent YOY decrease, to 10.00 million metric tons. At $174 per metric ton, the weighted average price of exported recovered paper in June was down 2.8 percent when compared to its June 2011 mark.

Regarding ferrous scrap, the 11.27 million metric tons exported through June resulted in a 7.5 percent YOY decrease. At $462 per metric ton the weighted average price of exported ferrous scrap was flat at a 0.2 percent drop.

Lastly, the 2.30 billion pounds of aluminum scrap exported through June equated to a 1.0 percent YOY increase. And, at 79 cents per pound, the average price of exported aluminum scrap in June was down 9.2 percent when compared to its May 2011 standing.
