## Blancco acquires GEEP data erasure software
_By Editorial Staff, Resource Recycling_
Blancco has [acquired](http://www.sacbee.com/2012/09/10/4804856/blanccos-acquisition-of-dban-from.html) Global Electric Electronic Processing's DBAN data erasure software.
DBAN, short for "[Darik's Boot and Nuke](http://www.dban.org/)" is an open-source program designed to securely erase a hard drive by repeatedly writing random numbers until no original data can be recovered. The program is capable of meeting a variety of data-erasure standards, including those used by the Department of Defense.
GEEP partially funded and supported the development of DBAN, and with the new acquisition, Blancco has issued a statement saying "users can continue to access DBAN at no cost through the current website, as nothing will change with regard to DBAN's functionality and availability." The acquisition of GEEP's stake in DBAN allows Blancco to reach an extensive worldwide user base, and potentially opens the door to tighter integration between DBAN and the company's data erasure solutions.
In addition, GEEP announced that it has partnered with Blancco for its data security needs and will be standardizing its data erasure methods on Blancco software.
