Plastics Recycling Update Magazine: PetroChem Wire: rPET rises in response to prime

## _PetroChem Wire_: rPET rises in response to prime

_By Editorial Staff, Resource Recycling_

Prices for some grades of rPET rose in early January, following an increase in prime of as much as five cents per pound in December.

An exception was FDA clear pellets, which were unchanged in early January at around 76-79 cents per pound due to weak seasonal demand. Clear flake rPET for food packaging was also steady in the first-half of January, with pricing close to 60 cents per pound. Supply of FDA clear PET was building up at the beginning of 2013 as the anticipated Chinese New Year in early February began reducing export demand.

Most other grades of rPET were up a penny in early January. Clear bottle grade pellets sold as high as 68 cents per pound. Strapping green flake was 37-38 cents per pound.
