## E-scrap on the legislative agenda across the country

State legislatures have only been in session for about a month in most parts of the country, but e-scrap bills are already making waves.
So far, e-scrap bills account for approximately 28 percent of all recycling legislation introduced in 2013 legislative sessions. Overall, 12 states have introduced e-scrap legislation with several hoping to pass a statewide electronics recycling program.
**Arizona** wants to join the 25 other states with electronics recycling programs through [House Bill 2361](http://legiscan.com/AZ/bill/HB2361) and its companion [Senate Bill 1267](http://legiscan.com/AZ/bill/SB1267). The proposed legislation would create a producer responsibility recycling program for desktop and laptop computers, televisions and monitors, similar to existing programs in other states. The bill does not cover mobile devices, other consumer electronics or appliances, and if passed, would require manufacturers to register with the state in 2014.
**Oklahoma's** [SB 255](http://legiscan.com/OK/bill/SB255) and **Wyoming's** [HB 240](http://legiscan.com/WY/bill/HB0240) are also being considered as possible statewide electronics recycling programs. Both bills cover computers, televisions, monitors and computer peripherals. Wyoming's bill is unique in that it specifically requires retailers to collect electronics for recycling, but does not relate to manufacturers selling products into the state.
