Plastics Recycling Update Magazine: NewsBits

## NewsBits

In the wake of the terrible devastation of super storm Sandy, the thoughts of the entire Resource Recycling, Inc. staff are with those affected on the East coast. For a rundown of what we in the **recycling industry can expect during the disaster cleanup**, and what we can expect from the next storm, read our article on disaster debris management [here](http://www.resource-recycling.com/images/e-newsletterimages/Disaster0909.pdf).

**The Great Lakes have higher concentrations of plastic waste than any other body of water**, according to a study from the [State University of New York](http://ecowatch.org/2012/plastic-pollution-great-lakes/). The vast majority of plastic recovered over the study's 21 samples were micro-plastic particles either floating or suspended in the water.

Plastics recycling firm **InterGroup International** will be [moving](http://www.jacksonprogress-argus.com/news/2012/oct/30/plastics-recycler-bring-50-jobs/) into a larger, **147,000-square-foot facility**, following the purchase of a 33-acre property in Jackson, Ohio. InterGroup is expected to hire approximately 50 workers by the end of next year.

It's a dirty job, but someone has to do it. Israeli company [Applied CleanTech](http://www.appliedcleantech.com/index.php) has developed a technology to **process human waste into a feedstock that can be used in the manufacture of plastics**.
