**Registration for the RecycleMania competition** is now [open](http://recyclemaniacs.org/). The competition pits colleges against one another to see which can recycle the most material and will run between February and March, 2013. Last year, participants collected over 92 million pounds of recyclables and organics.
The [Houston Chronicle is reporting](http://www.chron.com/news/houston-texas/article/City-sees-way-for-homes-to-recycle-more-by-3933815.php) that the largest city in Texas is looking for private partners for a **$100 million dirty MRF**. Calling it "Total Reuse: One Bin for All," residents would throw everything -- including e-scrap and organic scrap -- into one bin, which would be sorted by a robust materials recovery facility that is able to manage such diverse mixed municipal solid waste.
A recent issue of the _[_Wall Street Journal_](http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10000872396390444165804578006832478712400.html?mod=googlenews_wsj)_ featured a **point/counter-point article on the merits of banning plastic bags**, which succinctly sums up the arguments of both sides of the thorny issue.
Sustainable cleaning product manufacturer Method has [unveiled](http://www.multivu.com/mnr/55601-whole-foods-market-method-sustainable-packaging-made-with-ocean-plastic) a new **bottle made partially from recovered marine debris plastic**. Created through a partnership with Reidsville, North Carolina-based Envision Plastics, the limited-edition dish soap bottle is made from a blend of ocean plastic and post-consumer HDPE, and is available at Whole Foods stores.
Artist Sarah Turner has created an impressive **chandelier made from used Coca-Cola bottles**. The [piece](http://inhabitat.com/sarah-turner-creates-gorgeous-chandelier-from-recycled-coca-cola-bottles/) was commissioned by Coca-Cola for the London Olympics.
