## Export watch

The volume of plastic scrap exported in May, at 369.41 million pounds, was down 0.9 percent from its April figure. When matched against its May 2011 position, the volume of exports was down as well, by 5.6 percent.
The weighted price of recovered plastic exports in May, at 21.78 cents per pound, was down 2.0 percent from its April standing. Too, when compared to its year-over-year (YOY) level the price was down by 4.3 percent.
Through May, at 1.87 billion pounds, the volume of recovered plastics exported was up a robust 6.5 percent from its 2011 year-to-date (YTD) figure. However, at 21.63 cents per pound, the average price through May was down slightly 0.1 percent from its 2011 YTD standing.
As for other exported materials, recovered paper exports, through May, experienced a 4.4 percent YOY decrease, to 8.45 million metric tons. At $175 per metric ton, the weighted average price of exported recovered paper in May was down 2.2 percent when compared to its May 2011 mark.
Regarding ferrous scrap, the 9.36 million metric tons exported through May resulted in a slight 0.9 percent YOY increase. At $465 per metric ton the weighted average price of exported ferrous scrap was even.
Lastly, the 1.94 billion pounds of aluminum scrap exported through May equated to a 1.9 percent YOY increase. And, at 79 cents per pound, the average price of exported aluminum scrap through May was down 9.2 percent when compared to its May 2011 standing.
