AT&T customers now hold the [Guinness World Record](http://www.guinnessworldrecords.com/records-12000/largest-donation-of-used-mobile-phones-in-one-week-multiple-locations/) for **recycling the most wireless devices** by turning in 50,942 devices over the course of a week. In 2011, AT&T customers turned in approximately 3 million devices for recycling, diverting over 25,000 pounds of waste from landfills.
Reading, Pennsylvania-based **Exide Technologies** has announced that it will be **idling its lead recycling operations** next year due to swings in the lead market, high capital investment and regulatory requirements. The company will continue to operate its plastics recycling business and will retain its permits.
With the certification of three AER Worldwide facilities this week (see Certification Scorecard in this week's issue of the newsletter), **over 300 e-scrap processing facilities are now R2 certified**.
SAI Global is hosting a webinar on ISO 14001 success stories. The [webinar](http://www.saiglobal.com/Assurance/quality-business-management/webinars/ISO-14001-Success-Story.htm) will profile Affinity Health System's **incorporation of ISO 14001 practices into its business management process** and will be held Dec. 4.
Horry County, South Carolina says **finding ways to handle the increased volume of electronic scrap** following the state's disposal ban is **costing the county $300,000 annually**. According to [_WMBF News_](http://www.wmbfnews.com/story/20045186/horry-county-considering-tax-increase-to-handle-electronic-waste), the city council is considering paying for recycling and diversion options through an increase in property taxes, to the ire of some local residents.
**Dell and Goodwill** are [expanding](http://en.community.dell.com/dell-blogs/direct2dell/b/direct2dell/archive/2012/11/14/powering-the-possible-in-recycling.aspx) their **Reconnect** computer recycling program beyond the continental U.S., with the program now available through Goodwill Industries of Hawaii. The move was announced in conjunction with America Recycles Day.
