Plastics Recycling Update Magazine: PetroChem Wire: PS prices follow lower prime market

## _PetroChem Wire_: PS prices follow lower prime market

_By Editorial Staff, Resource Recycling_

Recycled PS prices were relatively stable last month, but faced more downward pressure in late May as the prime market weakened.

The spread between recycled GPPS and HIPS mostly held steady in May with black HIPS pellets trading around 75 cents per pound and black GPPS pellets at 56-59 cents per pound. White HIPS pellets were marginally lower at 77-79 cents per pound and GPPS white pellets held around 59-63 cents per pound. In the May flake market, white GPPS regrind was around 50 cents per pound, with white HIPS regrind around 65-67 cents per pound.

In the contract prime PS market, producers lowered the resin by 2-3 cents per pound for HIPS and 1-2 cents per pound for GPPS, effective June 1. Slower spot activity and feedstock cost pressure are widely expected to result in lower prime PS prices in July.
