Genesis, which is ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and R2 certified, specializes in disassembly, material sorting and processing for a range of products including consumer electronics, TVs and computer monitors, appliances and some plastic packaging. The firm also offers secure data destruction plans for clients on request. Additionally, Genesis is an approved processor under the Electronics Stewardship Association of British Columbia program.

"We are excited to have the Genesis team join the SRS family," said Sims Recycling Solutions president Steve Skurnac in a prepared statement. "With our strong presence in Ontario and Eastern Canada, this acquisition was an attractive opportunity for Sims to enter Western Canada and further strengthen its North America electronics recycling business."

Financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.
