A three-year probe by the U.K.'s **Environment Agency** has revealed that 10 firms operating across England, while being paid to recycle electrical equipment from local governments and businesses, instead **shipped them to Africa where the material was dumped**, reports [_The Telegraph_](http://www.telegraph.co.uk/earth/earthnews/9700836/How-your-old-computer-may-be-on-its-way-to-Africas-online-fraud-capital.html). Last week, the companies and their directors were convicted in what the paper calls "a landmark court case."

[E-Cycle Washington](http://www.ecy.wa.gov/programs/swfa/eproductrecycle/docs/Collections.pdf), the Evergreen State's electronics stewardship program, **collected 3.08 million pounds of covered electronics** in November -- bringing the total amount collected this year to 39.97 million pounds. Compared to last year, collection volume is up 4.6 percent.

Have you ever watched an **iFixit** video and thought, "I could do that"?
