A Houston-based glass recycling company agreed to pay a fine to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for federal Clean Water Act violations.

Strategic Materials, Inc. has agreed to pay [a penalty of $159,759](http://yosemite.epa.gov/opa/admpress.nsf/6427a6b7538955c585257359003f0230/fcd4457587496f0985257a7700693d73!OpenDocument) to settle claims that the company allowed polluted storm water from its Franklin, Massachusetts facility to flow into a tributary of the nearby Charles River.

Since the inspection, according to EPA, "the company revised its storm water pollution prevention plan, improved the design and implementation of control measures that minimize pollutant discharges and began regularly performing the required facility inspections and outfall assessments."
