Panasonic has filed Patent Application 20120305456, outlining a method of **determining whether an electronics case contains brominated flame retardants** by measuring its light absorption spectrum.

**VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland** says it has found a new technique to significantly **improve the overall quality of bio-based plastic packaging**. According to the , the next generation of bio-based products are likely to have superior qualities to their more traditional counterparts.

CTC Plastics and Lehigh Technologies, Inc. have [teamed up](http://www.tirebusiness.com/article/20121210/NEWS/121219998/firm-using-recycled-tires-in-plastic-pallets) to manufacture shipping pallets made from 100-percent recycled content. Specifically, the **pallets are made from a mixture of rubber tires and scrap polypropylene**.
