E-Scrap News Magazine: NewsBits

## NewsBits

Beginning in January, the **State Electronics Challenge will expand to accept imaging equipment**, including printers, copiers and multifunction devices. The inclusion of the devices was made possible in part by the expansion of the EPEAT registry to include imaging equipment this past year. More information is available [here](http://www.stateelectronicschallenge.net/).

**Dell and Goodwill** are partnering with Causes.com to create the [Powering the Possible Pledge](http://www.causes.com/causes/789392-powering-the-possible/actions/1697893), as part of their Reconnect program. The pledge asks consumers to **recycle their old computer equipment at a Goodwill location** this holiday season in exchange for a $20 gift certificate toward Dell products.

In other **Goodwill** [news](http://www.goodwillwny.org/app/webroot/img/Image/Sunnking_Release.pdf), the organization's Western New York division has **partnered with Sunnking, Inc. for shredding and data security services**. For items that will be refurbished and resold, the R2-certified company offers data-wiping and sanitization of hard drives prior to reconditioning.

Eight multi-national corporations with operations in the **European Union** have released a [position paper](https://dl.dropbox.com/u/107226563/RE business coalition_Paper on Extended Producer Responsibility.pdf) describing **"10 golden rules" for extended producer responsibility**. The paper states that EPR "if well applied in combination with other policy instruments, is a useful business model to promote sustainable production and consumption, enhance waste management performance, and thus move towards a resource-efficient society."
