E-Scrap News Magazine: Printed circuit board values flat

## Printed circuit board values flat

_By Editorial Staff, Resource Recycling_

The June average price for printed circuit boards was essentially flat at $7.42 per pound, declining just 0.4 percent from May and down 4.7 percent in the first half of 2012.

These numbers come on the heels of a sharp decline in price between April and May, and are part of an overall receding of printed circuit board prices following last fall's bubble, where average scrap circuit board prices hit a record high of $8.31 per pound. Year-over-year, the value of scrap circuit boards declined 2.9 percent in June.

However, at $7.73 per pound, the average price for the first six months of 2012 is 4.9 percent higher than the corresponding six months in 2011.

This data represents the full metallic values of boards over time and are not the recycling values, as those values do not include the costs involved in actually extracting metal from boards, including freight, sampling charges, assay assessments, smelting, refining, process loss, return on investment, and penalties for various elements, including beryllium, bismuth and nickel.

These values are for the estimated intrinsic metal content of recovered PC boards. Some consumers label such material as mid-value. Lower-value scrap includes monitor and television boards. Higher-value scrap includes network and video cards, and motherboards.
